Mercedes-Benz 001 545 7032 Cruise Control ECU / amplifier / control. Originally fitted to a W123 saloon with manual gearbox. Works with many Mercedes and Porsche models equipped with the VDO vacuum operated cruise control system including Porsche 928 and the Mercedes 107 series SL and SLCs. Note this unit has 10 pins numbered 3-12, it does not replace a 12-pin unit. This unit has been fully refurbished and all the faulty and lifetime-limited components have been replaced. The electrolytic capacitors which smooth the DC supply voltage are replaced with modern parts. The high-quality film capacitor which stores the speed reference is replaced with the latest equivalent. The rare depletion-mode FET which measures the speed signal has been swapped with a NOS part (these are hard to find). The quad comparator is replaced with a modern version. The power transistor which drives the vacuum actuator is replaced and the crumbly old glue that it was mounted with is replaced with Automotive RTV silicone. After repair and bench test, the PCB was cleaned and re-lacquered, re-tested and then sealed into the aluminium can. It was then tested for an hour in the can. Before installing this unit, make sure the problem isn’t elsewhere, remove the old unit first so you can test at the 10-pin connector in the car. NO POWER, check voltage at pin 5, with respect to pin 12, you should see a nominal 12V (12- 13.8V). If not check your fuses. BRAKE SIGNAL is significantly above 0V, test between pins 12 GND and 6 BRAKE this is held to ground through the bulb so the brake light bulbs must be real old-fashioned filament lamps, LED replacements are no good. You may also have problems with the earthing of the rear light clusters that need to be attended to. Make sure that your bulbholders are clean. After solving these problems in my C107, I measure 0.009V but less than 0.2V is OK. ACTUATOR is open or short circuit, test resistance between pins 3 and 7, you should measure between 10 and 22 Ohms. SPEED SENSOR is open or short circuit, measure between pins 11 and 12. There are two types, the version that is on the back of the speedo should give you a reading of between 650 and 1370 Ohms, the version that is on the speedo cable should measure 50 – 106 Ohms. BOWDEN CABLE is loose, check that there is no more than 1mm of slack in the cable that connects the actuator to the throttle linkage. CONTROL STALK switches are faulty. ACCEL SET should send Pin 9 high (nominal 12V), DECEL SET should send pin 4 high, RESUME should send pin 10 high, CANCEL should send pin 8 low (nominal 0V). Mount the unit properly in the car and go for a drive. Note, cruise control does not operate below about 30 mph. ACCEL SET should cause the car to speed up and when you release the control it should cruise along at a few MPH below the speed you were at when you let go of the lever. DECEL set should slow the car down by 3-4 MPH. If any of the tests fail, please attend to them first, if the actuator is short-circuit, do not plug in the module! It will blow the power transistor and maybe other parts. Note: This isn’t a modern cruise control, it can only control the throttle, not the brakes, its speed control is not very precise, it doesn’t know what gear you are in and will cut out of you’re going slowly up a hill. These are not faults, this just the best they could do in the 1970s! The list of compatible vehicles is based on my research but please do your own. It does appear to replace the earlier 2032 model with the grey connector which was used in 107 model Mercedes cars until about 1979, at least it works in my car. A VAT invoice will be supplied.
